FIRMWARE UPGRADE ON SEPTEMBRE 2017

 * The problem affect mainly the cartridges purchased between June 1st and August 31st, 2016 *

Following a firmware upgrade on selected printers utilising the following cartridges, 934 / 935 / 950 / 951 / 970 / 971, some compatible cartridges suddenly stopped working.

HP indicated in a statement that the reason for the upgrade was to protect the security chip. However, this upgrade was done automatically and without customer consent. Consequently, millions of customers across the world using compatible cartridges were all the sudden unable to print. So, under pressure from all the different consumer groups, HP announced that they would release a firmware to reverse the unsolicited upgrade. Those upgrades are now available on the HP Support website under the client’s specific printer model.

For the reason stated above, André Ink will not accept any returns of any cartridges which are not recognized by the printer unless the client can provide us a configuration page indicating the actual level of the firmware.
Please note that this problem and it’s resolution by HP confirms that your supplier can not be held responsible for this situation.

A procedure is available with a link to the different printer models. Simply follow the instructions for the upgrade/downgrade.

Latest Firmware 1640BR of HP 950/934/935/970Update Procedure  Download PDF

Remarks: you can only log in HP website to download and update to the latest firmware version 1640BR, and the printer must be ready when goes on the update; otherwise, the printer will note “busy” and fail to update.

If you see a Cartridge Problem error message when you are using non-HP cartridges, it is possible that a dynamic security feature has caused the printer to reject the non-HP cartridge. It is also possible that the cartridge has simply failed for other reasons.

This document applies to you ONLY if all three of the following conditions are true:

  • Your printer is in the table. Other HP printers are not affected.

  • You are using an aftermarket supply that contains a non-HP security chip (this may be a refilled or remanufactured HP cartridge with a non-HP chip). Only cartridges that lack HP’s security chip are affected.

  • A Cartridge Problem error message displays. Other error messages are not related.

  1. Look in the HP Printer Update window to see if your printer serial number displays.

Figure : Updating the printer firmware (Windows version shown)

  • If the serial number is listed, select the printer serial number, and then click Update.

  • If the serial number is listed but status is not applicable (grayed out), the firmware does not need to be updated. Click Cancel.

  • If the serial number is not listed and your printer is using a network connection, connect a USB cable, wait 20 seconds, and then click Refresh.

  1. When the update is finished, click OK.
  2. If you connected a USB cable for your networked printer, then remove the USB driver that was added by Windows.
    1. Search Windows for Devices and Printers, and then open Device and Printers from the search results.

    2. Right-click the USB printer device that matches your printer model, and then select Remove Device.

    3. Disconnect the USB cable, and restart the computer.

  3. .If the cartridge still fails after the feature is removed, then the cartridge is most likely defective and should be returned to your retailer.
